Chet Gionson continues his winning ways, winning the 4 man double round robin with perfect a 6.0 points in the adult section and Charles Sonido wins the scholastic section with a perfect 7.0 points in a field of 11 players. All the players won something either a cash award or silver bars or coins and some even free entries to the next scholastic tournament to be held on January 16. 2007 on MLK Day. See www.hawaiichess.org for further details of this upcoming tournament.
Due to the the holiday weekend we had a smaller group, but expect the word will get out that "Times Coffee Shop" has a very nice venue for playing chess in Kaneohe and expect our next TOPTOPUS to be larger and will make sure I announce it sooner!
We not only had chess boards out in force were had a couple of nice Go sets that some players and even parents attempted to master the game of Go as well! There were some side games of 5 in row and capture Go. I also noted that Hikaru No Go was of interest to some of the young players!
We hope to see more players visiting the Windward Chess Club and Oahu Go Club! Check the meetup schedule for our respective club meetings times!
Hope to see you either playing more Chess or Go, hmmm or both at this two clubs!
Happy Holidays!
Mahalo!

Hawaii Veteran's Day Interscholastic Chess Tournament
Aloha,
TD's Guy Ontai and Randy Prothero ran a large scholastic tournament Nov 10th with 103 players in the Open section and 36 players in the Novice section. All Open section players are now CXR members see www.cxrchess.com, with 31 new members and 10 renewing the rest were already current members. There actually was 111 CXR active CXR members as there were 8 playing in the Novice section, trying to regroup to re-enter the Open the section next time! CXR has added some interesting graphs to each player that has played at least 20 games so check it out! These Novice players games were rated by CXR as well.
To see the current HICL - Hawaii Interscholastic Chess League standing see (click here) This was the second tournament rated by HICL and the next one will the Jan 16, 2007 the MLK Scholastic chess tournament!
The surprise winner was Charles Sonido who had been laying back and out fought Robert Lau in the 5th round to go undefeated 6.0 points and win the tournament with the only perfect score. 2nd went to Robert Lau (last year's state champion), and 3rd John Iinuma who won the Le Jardin Academy tournament on Sept 30. So we are seeing some great competition and we look forward to more in the coming months.
In the Novice section the winner was Roy Yang with 7.0 out 8 possible points on tiebreakers over Christian Arakaki who was tied with him. 3rd palce went to Joshua Lee & Ryan Nakashima with 6.0 points. Ryan defeated his own teammate Roy Yang) in the final round to cause the final round tie!
The 1st place overall team was Punahou HS with 18.5 points and Moanalua HS with 17.o points and Pearl City HS with 16.5, so that was a very close battle there as well. I expect the next few tournament prior to the State Championships on March 9 - 10th.
This month we had the most tournaments scheduled, today the Mililani Chess Day and next Saturday the TOPTOPUS CXR tournament with a silver besides cash to be given away on November 25th! See www.hawaiichess.org for more details!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Le Jardin Academy 3rd Annual Chess Tournament - Sept 30, 2006
Aloha Hawaii Chess players,
The Hawaii scholastic chess tournament season started with 106 chess players in three sections, Open, Novice, and Parent. I was hard pressed for time due to having to explain things to my assistants with little time to spare. But we manage, with a few delays at the start and having to drop round six. I made some errors and finally corrected the awards as they should be. (There will be additional awards handed to those who are listed on the Open section. I had fun overall and will look forward to next year's tournament, we went from 35 to 46 to 106 players (in three years) and I expect next year will be larger and better.
Will make sure we get started on time and that everyone helping is aware of what needs to be done. We could not could have done everything without Kam School booster group providing the food and Damien School providing us with some entertainment and bringing in their football team as well as few other schools singing their school songs and Damien Memorial School even had their school Mascot visit the chess tournament! The giant chess set was hit. I also like to give a Big Mahalo to Le Jardin Academy for allowing to have this tournament on campus and we hope to keep having it here!
The Open section Winner was John Iinuma with a prefect score of 5.0 points earning him the the initial top spot on the HICL - Hawaii Interscholastic Chess League at 1441 rating and a CXR rating of 1621. The Novice section Winner was Christian Arakaki with a another perfect score of 5.0 and the honor of moving on to the Open section at the November 10, 2006 Vetaran's Day tournament TD by Guy Ontai! The Parent section winner was won by Scott Bowling needing a tiebreaker game. So you see parents can play chess too!
The Overll team winner was Kamehameha School Intermediate Chess team with 14.0 points, to see the rest of the results (click here ->> Wallcharts)
Open section was rated by both CXR www.cxrchess.com and HICL

USCL Flops a Flush
http://boylston-chess-club.blogspot.com/2006/08/uscl-flops-flush.html
The United States Chess League appears to have achieved a major coup by securing its first financial sponsor. Today, Commissioner Shahade announced an arrangement with online poker site PokerStars.com. PokerStars major claim to fame is that 2003 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker and 2004 Champion Greg Raymer both won their seats through satellites on the site.
Under the deal, each of the original eight USCL teams "...will receive a stipend for the season to help them pay their top players..." Apparently teams must complete a full-year in the league before becoming eligible for these payments. Therefore, neither Tennessee nor Seattle will be receiving the stipend this year. While the USCL announcement doesn't mention the value of the deal, in a comment to a previous post on BCC Weblog Shahade indicated that teams would be receiving $100 per match. For its part, PokerStars now has a banner advertisement prominently displayed near the top of the USCL homepage.
Obviously, PokerStars has recognized that chess players are often drawn to the game of poker. Our very own Bryan Clark could be exhibit #1 -- not to mention "Action" Dan Harrington, Howard "The Professor" Lederer, and many more. You can also check out this post on the Daily Dirt about chess players cashing at this year's Main Event. I suppose the big question for the tournament chess community is this -- after tasting the rewards of poker, do these individuals continue to play chess?****In other USCL news, the Boston Blitz have completed their 2006 roster by adding three additional names:
GM Eugene Perelshteyn - Perelshteyn was the Blitz's strongest performer last season and joins this year's team as a newly-minted Grandmaster.
FM Bill Kelleher - By contrast, Bill had the worst performance rating on the 2005 squad. One has to imagine that this was an odd aberration given his years of tournament experience.
NM Vadim Martirosov - New to the team this year, Vadim is a strong master and all around nice guy. His chess teaching prowess is legendary.
Former member of the Blitz, IM Josh Friedel, has joined the San Francisco Mechanics as their top-rated player. Rumor has it that Josh is trying to get them to change the name of the team to the Maniacs.

Monroi a new technology for recording chess games & tournaments!
Aloha,
Its been awhile since anyone placed any more information about Monroi. The World database is growing but for games to be added from a tournament a Personal Chess Manager (PCM) and a Professional Tournament Manager(PTM) & Monroi S/W are needed at the tournament in question. PCM's are not used by everyone and normally only few are currently used. It you look at the June 16 to 18 Las Vagas National Tournament, there is about 20 games at http://www.monroi.com per round so more than lightly there were 20 PCM's in use. The cost is probably a factor, but hopefully that will go down as Monroi becomes a more popular to be used in tournaments.
So to answer the question, what about the games that no PCM was used!? Well hopefully someone turned in the chess notataion sheet and then someone else will inputed into a computer and it will showup someday at Chessbase or other database. The World Database is only for those using the Monroi equipment both PCM and PTM and software. As any new system or equipment you got to start somewhere! And I'm sure more upgrades will be coming soon as Monroi becomes better known and then maybe another company may come up with a better system in the future or Monroi will keep improving their equipment.
For now the cheaper route is the good old pencil and paper, just be sure you have a pencil sharper handy and an eraser, and hope you do not get into time pressure and then not write the last few moves of a game.
Some players actually used both pencil and paper along side the Monroi PCM, just in case! See http://susanpolgar.blogs pot.com/2006_06_01_susanpolgar_archive.h tml
Has anyone in Hawaii used a Monroi PCM, not yet but that is about to change, will it appear on World database? Not yet no PTM was purchase, plus who would want to see my games anyway at this time!
Cost is the main issue, but if you have a laptop or computer at home, or PDA, and cell phone these devices were all costly too! They are used to communicate and their prices have come down a little. Monroi has an idea to make chess games more interesting for everyone and to share these games not just in a database on the Internet but in realtime! I observe Hawaii's State Champion from 97, 98, 99 play Kong Liang Deng (2478) at the Las Vegas event even though I was in Hawaii. I believe ICC was offering this as well for the top 10 boards where do you think they were getting the chess notataion for these games in progress!
As a chess instructor for beginner's to intermediate this new tool will assist me greatly, Mahalo Monroi!
By the way pencil and paper work fine at a personal level and I will be teaching chess notation always to my students!

Windward Chess Club moves to Kailua District Park for 15 months!
Aloha Hawaii Chess Players,
Due to Windward Mall renovating the mall we were asked to move out of the mall! Unfortunally Kaneohe District Park also is being renovated and so they could not house us either, so Kailua District Park was kind enough to offer the space, trying my best to keep the meetings on Wednesday's since we have other Hawaii chess clubs that meet on other days of the week.
Windward Chess Club will be meeting at the Kailua District Park possibly for the next 15 months, we need you to come and support this club, so that the District Park sees there is indeed a large group of chess players that need a meeting place on the Windward side of the Island. Let others know we moved and check http://chess.meetup.com/9/events for location of Windward Chess Club (WCC) Wednesday meetings 5:30pm to 8:45pm as well as the summer chess classes at Palolo Tuesdays and Kailua on Mondays for begineer scholastic players.
The Kailua District Park meeting rooms are smaller, but if we show we can bring a larger group we may be able to get more space, so we need your support. No A/C just good ole Trade winds to keep us cool, bring your workout clothes, lots of other things to do at the Park, like start training for the Honolulu Marathon!!
WCC is the ONLY public chess club that offers CXR rated match games and Quads currently in Hawaii, For current Quad results go to http://www.windwardchess.org/Results.html. So if you do NOT see your name below, either you have not played in 61 days (to remain an "Active" players) or your membership expired, Scholastic $5, adults $12, see Frank Alejandro on how to renew! As you see CXR in not only a national club rating, its an International chess club rating, with Mexico and Canada in the rating picture as well!
Questions please email me or call!
And my question to you, if have your own chess club, why is it not listed?
For map follow this link http://chess.meetup.com/9/events
Like to play a another game besides chess WCC will also have nice wooden Go boards available for those interested in this game. So there you have another reason to come, Chess, Go and training your body for long games via sports of your choice at the Kaiilua District Park,
Mahalo,
Frank

Very important, please take poll at http://chess.meetup.com/9 concerning meeting location for Windward Chess Club! ASAP
Aloha Windward Chess Club (WCC) Players, parents, HCF board, and Friends,
http://chess.meetup.com/9 please take our location change poll at Meetup, ASAP!
Please let us know where you like WCC to meet to ensure you can come to the club! We have limited known possible locations. Due to the durations (15 MONTHS) I thought the district park at Kailua would be best and to keep it on Wednesdays or Tuesday's if we need to change the date. Also the main Kaneohe District park is preparing to go under renovations as well so we could not go there and they already have other events going on there on Wednesdays! Tuesdays conflict with the Pearlridge Chess Club, Monday with Honolulu Chess Club, and Thursday with the Mililani Chess Club for those that go there is as well!
I already have chess class (group) at Kailua on Mondays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm, so I know Kailua area has an interest in chess and many players do visit the Windward Chess Club on Wednesdays as well. this would encourage these players to come, plus its close to the beach and the rest of us can visit the beach before or after the chess meeting!
We have only two more meetings at Windward Mall (June 7 & 14) and so our first meeting away from the mall will be June 21. Right now I'm lobbying for Kaila District Park on Wednesdays 5:30pm to 8:30pm! But please take our poll and lets see what the majority say, if select another location that not listed please email ASAP with your suggestion!
Tomorrow night (June 7th) we will decided at our regular meeting as we are running out of time to find a new location!
Windward Mall has express an interest inviting us back on Sept 2007 when the renovations are over and this novation effects other activities at the mall not just the chess club. Please let the Windwared Malll we appreciated the last 4 1/2 years of playing chess at the mall and we hope to continue when the revocations are completed!

2nd Annual Aikahi Invitational Scholastic Tournament
Aloha,
Aikahi Invitational Scholastic Chess Tournament was completed May 6! We had 27 players and appreciate those traveling long distance to come here! Check the web site results here
http://windwardchess.org/tourresults/HCF/Aikahi/aikahielem.html,
Hanahauo'li with the whole team having to leave early, won the team section with 17 points! They were followed closely by Le Jardin Academy with 16.5 points and Aikahi Elementary with 12 points.
Individual winners were, 1st place Andrew Brabazon, with 5.0 points winning on tiebreakers, 2nd place Steven Yee with 5.0 points, and Jefferson Huynh with 4.5 points for 3rd place.
We had a good turn out and we like to say Mahalo, to Aikahi Elementary School, its chess club, Kathy Bryant, Coach Mark Stitham, Ray Kama, and all the parents who help make this a fun day as well as for the pupu's and pizza.
We could not have managed without everyone's support; we just got to remember to bring our cameras. I think only Chase's dad had a camera!
This was CXR rated event, for current CXR members!

Kahuku "Got Chess" holds successful tournaments on April 1st!
Kahuku Chess Tournaments survives flood warnings and has a its 1st Annual "Open" Scholastic Chess tournament on its own school grounds. The event was free and the school provided food and drinks as well as really nice awards. Thirty triple weighted chess sets and boards were given away as well as medals and a perpetual wooden trophy. We also had great doors prizes that were a hit!
Who said April 1st is "unlucky day" and yes it was a Saturday chess tournament, some outdoor events were canceled due to water soaking the fields, and chess being an indoor event had no such problem, accept for the the two giant chess sets at Kahuku High School now having a moat of water around them now! Yes the same ones that GM Susan Polgar played chess on a few years ago!
We had a really great tournament at Kahuku High School on the North side of Hawaii (April 1st), it was a beautiful morning and we did get not get any rain and lighting but not until about 3:00pm, but it did not last long! Anyway we also ran a Bughouse tournament of 6 rounds besides the the 5 round G/15 rapids tournament and the players wanted more, Nate Blevins Kahuku Chess coach even said lets keep playing, but I was tired out and also realized the rain was back and so we finished the last round about 5:00pm.
Steven Yee 4.5 points was the top player again (won on tiebreakers), he also won the Iolani Tournament and held back Marissa Krienke 2nd place also with 4.5 points and Makaio Krienke 3rd with 4.0 points . The Team winner was new team at Kapolei Middle School from Leeward Oahu, the Kahuku Intermediate School chess team came in second and Hanahau'oli School came in third place!
Lots of players did not come or show due to possible flood warnig's and so we had a 38 players in the Rapids and and we did have a great Bughouse tournament with 38 players with adults allowed to play and so we had the top Hawaii Bughouse players from Honolulu and everyone had great time!
David McDonald a was not as lucky player on the chessboard but did well enough to win a chess set and was the lucky winner in the draw that was drawn by our youngest chess player Pre-K Jacob Prothero and so David won the top award of a digital chess clock! He was one happy little guy! He now has another story to add to his collection of stories he loves to tell people about, Marissa and Makaio I believe can attest to that, right!
I will try and get some photos especially the double giant chess sets that Kahuku had built a few years ago and due to the rains was surround by water and so they had path around it and so it looked cool with a moat of water surrounding it! I am still pretty tired stayed up to late the night before getting things ready, had to use my friends laptop and so had to download and load my programs and data files to prepare fro the tournament!
Anyway we now have 11 new CXR players, and believe that will put us at 1830 people unless someone else joined in the last few days! with approx 450 CXR players in Hawaii now!
Note: Its has rained now 42 days in roll here in Hawaii and has caused mudslides and boulders to to roll down hills and homes sink, fall and flood as well as Kahala Mall was flooded near Diamond Head area. But lucky for us I had my fingers crossed for April 1st we did have a good turn out even though some parents were concern about the flood warnings, the weather held out just long enough for us to have a good turn out and expect next year's Kahuku tournament to be even larger.
Nate Blevins the Kahuku Coach and the Kahuku School provided food and drinks and purchased the chess sets we gave away and Windward Chess Club donated medals and perpetual awards the was won by Kapeoli Chess Team. I had lots of help from Nate Blevins, John Imperial, Lynn Imperial, Randy Prothero and Adam Victoria-Santarone and lots of Kahuku Chess members and other players and parents that came out!
I was told I needed to work on my award presentations, which is true, I was rare tired and had a little problem pronouncing some names. I learn some more things about WinTD and bughouse setup and will do lots better next time.
Many of the players were asking me when if we planed a scholastic event this summer and another bughouse event, we had forty players playing in the bughouse event and they just wanted to keep playing. Iolani and Kahuku Bughouse events have indicated that this type of tournament is popular so I will lot into running another event this summer!
Anyway that all from for now from Kaneohe, Hawaii and yes its raining hard and lighting everywhere. I better turn off my computer, before it gets zapped!
We plan on having this tournament again next year, so make plans to travel to Kahuku High School next year, for results from this tournament go to Kahuku tournament results.

Frank

Hawaii Interscholastic Chess League Awards & Hawaii Chess News
Aloha Chess & Go players, etc.,
Wow had a very good turn out at the Windward Community College; we were missing a few key teams and players! But there is always next year and other tournaments, right! Please give Guy Ontai & Randy Prothero a huge Mahalo! We even had great weather for the tournament and then the rain came back the next day!
Robert Lau won the High School section winning the right to represent Hawaii at the Denker Tournament of Champions!! He currently has a undefeated 32 CXR games streak, with only three more to equal GM Alek Wojtkiewicz There lot of winners to many to name here But since we sponsored HICL I'll Iist them here and you also check how you and others stood in the HICL standing. Just go to http://www.windwardchess.org/tourresults/HICL.html
Next fun chess tournament is April 1st at Kahuku, two tournaments and Rapids G/15 yes even rated by CXR. And a Bughouse G/5 of course, similar to Iolani's tournament but team and individual event all in one same as our regular touranmets we had all season but a little faster! You can play in one or both tournaments! Even have door prizes for players!
Frank Alejandro will be demonstrating the game of Go as a side bar for those interested, a game 4500 years old and simple to learn but like chess will take a life time to master as IM Edward Laker stated in his book on Go!! Please visit http://www.windwardchess.org/ to learn more about both games as well as links to chess sand go programs and meeting locations of clubs! Anyway more details on the last items later!

First it required a little more time than I had to get the HICL and CXR ratings completed quickly, due to the team format of the tournament, but a little trial and error I finally got it formatted for CXR www.chess-express.com to process. As for the seasonal HICL ratings, still rechecking for errors, but I do have a draft of the rosters available at link on Item #2 and Item #3 below!
News links & ratings links!

The two rating Hard copies of (HICL and CXR rosters) will be available for your review at the March 11 tournament as well as on-line!!
Note: If you would like to donate $5 for this CXR service and / or for HICL seasonal awards you can use Paypal at our Windward Chess Club web site link under the picture of Windward Chess Club players, or just click on paypal link above! We are still actively seeking NEW sponsors for HICL / CXR programs!
==
Info: Cost for 200 CXR players is $5 per player = $1000 annually, and does not include the HICL awards program costs! None of this is funded by HCF or taken from tournament entries, accept for the LJA Tournament we hold annually. which has been kicking off the Hawaii chess tournament season the last two years and will continue doing so! This year HCF / HICL open section scholastic tournaments had 162 players (5tournaments) and last year we had 178 players (5 tournaments).
Its normally overlooked during the tournament annoucements, but it does not stop us from getting the Hawaii's scholastic tournaments rated by CXR, Susan Polgar now has her New York Chess Center and her Susan Polgar Texas Chess Center involved. CXR- Chess Express, Inc. now has affiliates in Canada, Mexico, S. Africa and others are joining!
Note: HICL has no rating cost. its maintained on my own computer and so is only a seasonal rating and posted at http://www.windwardchess.org/, but at the end of each scholastic chess tournaments season HICL is giving out awards to the top rating performers and it does help to play in as many tournaments as possible. This year we had only 8 players play in all five recent scholastic (Sept 2005 to Feb 2005) tournaments out of 162 players. Chess season is year long so its understandable that other sports and events will keep players away at times!
==
HICL awards will be presented to winners on March 11, so be sure to come play in the Hawaii State Championships for High School to held from March 10 to March 11. And for K -8 only on March 11. Due to Feb 20 tournament having only five rounds we lowered the requirement of 18 games down to 17 games to qualify and to be fair to those counting on this tournament to achieve the minimum requirement of games!

Chess Tournaments in Hawaii
Aloha Hawaii Chess players,
1. I inquired with HCF President Randy Prothero about Hawaii's first 2006 USCF rated Mililani chess tournament that was to be held on Saturday Feb 11 and was informed that only three chess players showed up to play. So they canceled the tournament, but they stayed the whole day giving beginner lessons, playing on the giant chess board and playing skittle games with the public at the Mililani Town Center! I did not not play myself so no finger pointing from me, but I am curious why the rest of Hawaii chess players were no shows.
I know it being flu season, the Pro Bowl the next day and the Olympics were being shown on the television I guess we had reasons for not playing. Could have been the cool weather, which to me was rather nice to have, knowing what really cold weather is like having stationed in Grand Forks, N.D. and seeing chill tempatures of -80! Brrr now that's freezing!! Glad I live in Hawaii now!
Anyway please give us some feedback as to what will bring you to the next USCF tournament. Would an all scholastic event be of interest? G/45 may seen long, but if you ever played in the mainland or a state / national tournament game times per player are higher G/90 to G/120+ and these tournaments last for two or three days. Think about the longer you think about finading the right move the better chance of winning! Entry fees are higher too!
Anyway let us know what your looking for so we have better attendance as well as better tournaments. Mililani Town Center is really wanting chess players to play there really have a nice area for us, it is covered but outside. If you prefer another location let us known where and we'll check it out! Also if your interested in becoming a Tournament Director please let us know! Or if your interesting in helping a school chess club form and and give lessons we have a few openings both leeward and windward schools! If you want to know more about how to run a chess club just follow this link http://www.uschess.org/scholastic/sc-guide2.html
2. Feb 20 President's Day is the next Scholastic tournament its as team tournament, but you DO NOT have to have a team to play, Guy Ontai will place you in a Ronin team, and there is a Novice section which I suspect will be a large group as well are getting more new players interested from public schools. Please visit the Hawaii Chess Federation web site at www.hawaiichess.org for more information on upcoming tournament, there are a few at "various game time settings" including bughouse tournaments!
Note: Please look at the blog entry below concerning the Feb 20 tournament and HICL standing, remember you must HAVE PLAYED in 18 games out of (30 games = 5 tournaments ) to qualify for the end of year awards to be giving out in March! Remember the winners will be sponsored to the to the USCF Hawaii Championships held in Sept as well as receiving some nice awards and free membership into CXR next year and sponsored to a free entry to the Le Jardin Academy tournament Sept 30 if your still in school K -12.
The HCF calendar also displays all the USCF tournaments scheduled as well as some new scholastic tournaments to be held at Iolani on March 4, and April 1 at Kahuku G/15 tournaments and bughouse tournaments! There could a another one in May if interest is high location to be annouced!
So we'll see you soon, always first check the HCF calendar for upcoming tournaments here in Hawaii! Details on events are available as well as entry forms!

Robert Lau wins MLK Day Scholastic Tournament with 5.5 score!
Aloha Hawaii chess players and friends,
Good news! Windward Chess Club WILL be meeting tonight Jan 18 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at Windward Mall - Center stage area, for the first time this new year. We will have lessons end game study. I kept seeing lots of games drawn or lost due to not knowing how to win with material advantage at the MLK Scholastic tournament. And there will Quads for those interested in rated CXR games to keep the tournament skill edge up.
Robert Lau out scored the rest of the "Open section" group with a 5 1/2 score to win the overall 1st award, also staying on top of the National standings HICL CXR standings as well as retaking the lead in the local seasonal standing in the HICL - Hawaii Interscholastic Chess League with a 1545 rating and a 11-0-1 after only two tournaments! John Iinumna continue on his quest to regain the HICL lead with a rating of 1520 and a 15-2-1 record in three tournaments, Christopher Wong at 1473 and a 13-3-2 record after three tournaments is in third place. Windward Chess News & Special events
Aloha & Happy New Year,
First Monday, January 16th HCF, has scheduled the MLK Day Scholastic Tournament the first tournament this year at Aliamanu Intermediate School, TD Guy Onati & Randy Prothero. See www.hawaiichess.org for details and entry form. HICL top performer's battles are ongoing as we complete each scholastic tournament, only a few players have reached the required 18 games needed to qualify, so after this tournament the HICL picture will be clearer. This may be the last of full Open play tournament "open k-12th" this school year!
Since the next tournament on Feb 20 is a team's tournaments all players can still play, just will be placed in team with other school players if you do not have four players from one school. Schools are allowed more than one team.
The last scholastic tournament currently scheduled for this school year in the HCF web site www.hawaiichess.org is the March 10 - 11 Hawaii Divisions Championships, in High school division K -12th invited, Intermediate school divsvison K -8th and Elementary school division K - 6th you can only enter in one division. This last tournament may not be rated by HICL if we have no open tournament at Kahuku in April. If we do then we will count the March tournament as well and make presentations at Kakuhu for the HICL top rating performance players awards 2005 -2006 season for Overall, High, Intermediate, and elementary.
Either way all scholastic tournaments will be rated by (CXR) Chess Express, Inc, based in New York. see www.chess-express.com. This is a National rating system and includes your USCF tournaments in Hawaii and mainland if I'm made of the mainland tournaments prior to playing in them I will rate for you via CXR!
Second, after seven weeks at Times Coffee Shop due to holidays, WM management has invited Windward Chess Club back, starting today January 11th, but I failed to submit the the contract paperwork in a timely fashion so NO MEETING tonight at the mall. Its totally my fault and we hope to get approval from GGP in, Chicago, IL the main office by next week, if not we meet there after approval is given and paperwork and contract has been signed and approved. We have have been meeting at Windward Mall since Oct 2001 and we look forward to many more years of meeting there. Its good for the community and Windward Mall.
Note sometime in April / May 2006, Windward Mall will been starting a $23 million upgrade and so due to construction in the mall during that time we will not be meeting there. We will be seeking another meeting place so any suggestions please email ASP! We expect to return to the Windward Mall after the construction period but that is pending approval by GGP as well!
